HIS CBC JOURNEY:

Leon’s 29 years at CBC were preceded by nearly ten years saving lives—specifically the lives of premature babies—as an EMS driver. During that time, Leon transported over 433 preemies to Duke, Greenville, and Chapel Hill. As a young person Leon was always an achiever—earning MVP in football, track, and basketball, and making it all the way to the Junior Olympics in track. Now at CBC, Leon still believes in making every effort to negotiate in a way that builds healthy competition—working hard to make himself and CBC the best possible. “If you dig a ditch, you should be the best ditch digger you can be. I firmly believe if you start something, you finish it.”

GREATEST INFLUENCE ON HIS LIFE:

Leon’s grandparents have influenced him greatly. ”My grandma always reminded me that today could be my last day on earth. She would say, ‘Don’t let your life down on earth always be upset or sad. Treat each day like it could be your last.’ Today this is my philosophy, and it’s why I never have a bad day. I get everything a day can give me.”

HIS SOURCE OF STABILITY:

Day to day, Leon credits his wife as the source of his stability: “My wife is from Trinidad and is my rock. It takes a special person to support this type of career and the hours I work. She understands my commitment and always has.”

FAVORITE CBC STORY:

Years ago, Leon experienced the CBC spirit. “I was on a sales call out at a military base in NC, and my computer broke down midway through the call. It was time-consuming and frustrating to handwrite the sales ticket, but suddenly I got a phone call from the office: Mr. Nunnelee himself was going to bring me a computer at the base! I was just a salesman, and he was the owner of the company, and I couldn’t believe he would do that for me. When he arrived, I told him that I had been planning to quit when I got back to the office that day, but since he had done that for me, I had changed my mind. That was the day I locked in. And I have never looked back.”

HIS CARE FOR CUSTOMERS:

Leon passes on this same family care to his customers. “I always tell them, ‘We’re in it together.’ And they trust me because of this.”
